You've taken classes, you've performed a while, you have skill sets, you believe in ensemble work, you're smart, you're thoughtful, you've been told you're funny, you want to do the work. So why is your scenework stagnant? Talented improvisers have complexity and intelligence. Part of the joy of improv is saying things we haven't permitted ourselves to in the everyday and unlocking both heart and mind, so dialogue can be said as simply as it desires to be said. We're all good at being witty; scenes should be more than that. This workshop is a scenework intensive in getting to it, trusting your instincts, saying what you need, and feeling emotion, not indicating it. Tara DeFrancisco, performer and teacher for Second City, ComedySportz, iO Chicago & worldwide comedy consultant, brings the heart back to your scenework by busting you on pitfalls of bad improv, and invites you to make her give a rip about anyone you play.

TARA DEFRANCISCO is a decorated performer and instructor for the iO, Second City, and ComedySportz theatres in Chicago, Illinois. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, she made the move to pursue improv after college and became lucky enough to call it her full-time profession. Tara toured for 3 years for SC, plays in the ComedySportz Mainstage show, and can be seen in the improvised musical The DelTones, weekend house team Chaos Theory, and occasionally in the Armando Diaz Theatrical Experience & Hootenanny at iO Theatre. Hailed as the “Funniest Person in Chicago“ by the Free Press, Top 25 in Curve Magazine, and one-to-watch in Time Out Magazine, she was recently awarded the Top 50 Performers in Chicago by New City - one of only three improvisers to receive the nod. Just this September, Tara was lucky enough to be named Top 100 US Comedians by Chicago Magazine. Improv is not only just the greatest, but the tenets have become her greatest mantra for life.
